December 2008 - VANCOUVER: With great thanks to our generous customers, in December 2008 Choices was able to donate nearly $18, 000 to eight neighbourhood houses around Metro Vancouver and the Okanagan. Made possible by our gracious suppliers, thirty-six food hampers were also donated to the eight neighbourhood houses.

Choices' Annual Haunted HouseChoices' Annual Haunted House

October, 2008: Every year, Choices’ West 57th location transforms into a spooky haunted house for those in the neighbourhood to enjoy. There are hot dog sales and treats for the kids. Admission is by donation and the proceeds are donated to the children of Stepping Stone Pre School.

October, 2008: In recognition of Celiac Awareness month, Choices Markets, in cooperation with the Canadian Celiac Association, was proud to host our first annual Gluten Free Fair in Kelowna on Saturday, October 18. Following suit to Choices’ Vancouver Gluten Free Fairs, the Kelowna event featured informative seminars and a variety of tasty gluten-free foods to sample. All participants left the event happy with a gift bag full of coupons and gluten-free treats to take home.

October, 2008: Without a doubt, BC has some of the world’s best apples and every autumn, The UBC Apple Festival showcases BC’s most celebrated fruit. Choices Markets was once again a part of the annual Apple Festival where we hosted the Great Apple Peel-Off contest.

September, 2008: As part of the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, Choices Markets White Rock eagerly participated in the clean up of Blackie Spit in South Surrey. Choices was there to lend a hand and provided snacks and tents for volunteers.

August, 2008: Choices proudly sponsored the Ismaili Walk for Women on August 30. Although the day was rainy, spirits were high as participants walked to raise funds for the BC Women’s Hospital & Health Care Centre.

July, 2008: As a long-standing member of the Cambie Village Business Association, Choices Markets were proud to participate in Cambie Village Neighbourhood Appreciation Day on July 19. We held a barbecue for the neighbourhood and Choices employees happy painted faces for the children that stopped by.

June, 2008: Every summer Choices Markets donates a portion of our summer plant sales to various high schools for their dry grads. In 2008 Choices donated over $5000 to eight different high schools in Metro Vancouver and the Okanagan.



Pacific Spirit RunPacific Spirit Run

May, 2008: In the month of May, Choices Markets’ employees and their family members all look forward to participating in the annual Pacific Spirit Run. With all pledged proceeds going to support Tapestry Foundation for Health Care, Choices gladly sponsored the event by donating snacks and refreshments for walkers and runners of all ages. In 2009 the Pacific Spirit Run will celebrate its 20th anniversary, and Choices will be there once again to partake in this long-standing tradition.

April 1, 2008 - VANCOUVER: Choices Markets Rice bakery presented a $1000 cheque to the Canadian Celiac association in support of “Growing up Gluten-Free”, an event dedicated to children and youth with gluten-intolerance.

Jean Arntorp, president of the Vancouver Chapter of the Canadian Celiac Association, says “One of the mandates of the Canadian Celiac Association is to bring greater awareness of gluten intolerance to the medical community and the general population. We thank Choices Markets for their generous support of our events and awareness campaigns. Our members are especially grateful for the gluten-free products made at their Rice Bakery.”

Earth DayEarth Day

April, 2008: As a company that is 100% BC owned and operated, Choices Markets holds the environment in high regards. Each spring we celebrate the environment and demonstrate our responsibility toward Mother Nature by hosting an Earth Day event at our South Surrey location. Last year’s event included samples of earth-friendly products such as Cocoa Camino chocolates, Nature’s Path Organics and Earthbound Farm Organics. Along with yoga demonstrations and face painting for the kids, Choices put on a barbecue and donated all of the proceeds to the Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society.

March, 2008: In proud support of Big Brothers, Choices Markets’ employees happily participated in the 2008 nationwide Bowl for Big Brothers. We gathered together for a night of fun and entertainment and proudly presented our donations totaling over $2000.

 

Choices teams up for CANstruction Vancouver's Design and Build CompetitionChoices teams up for CANstruction Vancouver's Design and Build Competition

Feb 24 to March 2, 2008 - VANCOUVER: It starts with one can. To feed the hungry. To lift the spirit. To change the world.

Vancouver's Edith Cavell Elementary School, Grade 5/6 (split) class teamed up with Choices Markets, Omni Engineering and Unicycle Creative in the 6th Year of CANstruction Vancouver's Design and Build Competition. The goal is to create a sculpture entirely from canned food with all the proceeds going to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. Since 2003, a record 600,000 cans of food have been donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
