Meet the Choices Nutrition Team


Nicole Fetterly, BA, BSc, RD

Believes that food and eating are at once a universal cultural experience and a completely individual practice. She is passionate about helping people enjoy eating while receiving the utmost nutritional benefit from their choices. As a working mother of two young children, Nicole knows the challenges of getting healthy food on the table fast. She strives to provide recommendations and recipes that are easy to put into practice.

Nicole Fetterly is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of BC and has experience in hospital, foodservice, media, corporate, and community settings. She received her Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health from the University of British Columbia and also completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology at the University of Victoria. Her dietetic internship was completed in 2007 with Vancouver Coastal Health.

Nicole can be contacted to answer any of your nutrition, product or cooking questions and to arrange a nutrition tour at any of our stores. Vasi Naidoo, BSc, RHN

Graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. Pursuing her passion for health and wellness, Vasi believes that a solid foundation of proper nutrition along with an exercise program that promotes physical and mental well being will lead to optimal health. She enjoys empowering clients to take charge of their health, enabling them to achieve a balanced lifestyle. Vasi loves cooking and travelling to exotic destinations: the different cultural experiences, ideas and spices she returns with are inspiration for unique creations in the kitchen.


Sheila Fetter, BSc, RD

Sheila's passion lies in the prevention of disease through nutrition and lifestyle.  She promotes the enjoyment of food and encourages people to make nutritious meals a priority.  At Choices, Sheila enjoys giving store tours and presentations and answering customer nutrition questions in-person.

Sheila holds a Bachelor of Science in Food Nutrition and Health with honours from the University of British Columbia and is a member of the College of Dietitians of British Columbia, Dietitians of Canada, and the Consulting Dietitians Network of Dietitians of Canada.


D'Arcy Furness, BA, RHN

Is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (Canadian School of Natural Nutrition). D’Arcy believes wholeheartedly in the positive power of change at any time in our lives and that every life stage brings new opportunities. D’Arcy is passionate about helping people shift their “eating paradigm”, achieve a healthy weight without dieting and simplify healthy meal planning. In addition to her nutrition training, she holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science, a Marketing Management Certificate from BCIT and extensive business experience in the telecommunications industry. She is very interested in the politics of food and how the development and implementation of public nutrition and health policies affect us. With her strong business background she is able to pull from a variety of disciplines to effectively and enthusiastically educate and inspire people to help them achieve their nutrition goals. D’Arcy is holistically inclined, grounded in science, and firmly believes that nothing is as important as good nutrition and a healthy food supply for our own optimal functioning and for the health of our planet.


Sonia Reed, RHN

Is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Sonia believes in the importance of incorporating whole foods into your diet. Cooking and experimenting in the kitchen has always been a passion for her and a great way to learn and love your food! Sonia enjoys the challenge of helping people with food sensitivities and opening their minds and taste buds to new foods that are better tolerated.

Eventually Sonia would like to further her knowledge and experience in prenatal and child nutrition. In her spare time, Sonia enjoys cooking and baking with her daughter, gardening, travelling, the great outdoors and spending time with her family.


Nadene Shirtliff, BA, MSc

Is a former Registered Dietitian with a masters degree in nutrition. Nadene has many years of experience in the health care industry and is passionate about nutrition, health, and fitness. Nadene believes that the foundation for good health is found in nutrition and exercise. Nadene loves creating new recipes in the kitchen and in her spare time enjoys reading and participating in several different sports.


Shawna Barker, BSc, RHN

Is a holistic nutritionist, organic farmer, and raw food educator. She is passionate about natural health and sustainable living; an interest that led her to graduate from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors of Science degree in Food, Nutrition and Health and complete the holistic nutrition program at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. A long time vegan, she slowly starting eating more raw foods while studying nutrition and noticed such a positive change in health and energy that she decided to take the Raw Food Chef and Instructor Certification course at Raw Foundation Culinary Arts Institute. She recently owned and operated a mobile raw, vegan cafe, Gaia's Living Foods, and an organic farm on Vancouver Island. Shawna has a thirst for knowledge, continuing to study local plant medicines, and enjoys sharing with others about the benefits of a plant-based, raw food lifestyle.


Shannon Smith, BSc, RD

Graduated with honours from UBC’s Food Nutrition and Health program, and completed her dietetic internship with Vancouver Coastal Health. Shannon enjoys using her knowledge of nutrition to demystify the fact and fiction surrounding food. She believes nutrition is a powerful tool to support disease prevention and lifelong health.

She is passionate about finding innovative ways to motivate others to incorporate healthy eating habits into their regular routines. ‘Healthy’ doesn’t need to be complicated – it should be fun and starts with fresh, unprocessed ingredients. As a true Vancouverite, she enjoys any activities that involve good food and being outdoors, for which the city offers never-ending possibilities!
